About.
Lucys British mother, a dealer in fine arts and antiques, greatly impacted Lucy’s appreciation of objects with a story, fostered her creative spirit, and made her surroundings beautiful from infancy. Her father, an Australian cowboy and filmmaker, instilled in her a spirit of play, curiosity, and adventure.
Born in England, Lucy lived in Australia, America, Italy and England while travelling the world with her parents as a child. She went to boarding school in East Anglia when she was nine years old, and when she was sixteen she enrolled at an art college in Cambridge, studying art history, photography, fine art, textiles and media studies.
Lucy’s upbringing in a multicultural environment allowed her to develop a unique blend of artistic sensibility and rugged independence, shaping her into a dynamic and imaginative individual. As she grew older, Lucy combined her parents’ influences to create her own eclectic style and approach to life.
Aged 19, she sold her collection of vintage cameras to travel back to Australia, where she stayed for the next ten years. For the most part she spent the decade living in the Central Desert Region working for the local community arts centre, maintaining their costume department, creating sets for stage productions, running creative workshops and working on local arts festivals. She worked for a local Steiner school then ran playgroups in Aboriginal town camps, assisted in Aboriginal art studios in remote communities and exhibited her artwork nationally between her long stints working ‘out bush’.
During this time, she developed a deep appreciation for indigenous art and culture, which greatly influenced her artistic style later. Her experiences in the Australian outback continue to inspire her work to this day. Ultimately it shaped her future career as an artist and educator, blending elements of traditional and contemporary art practices.
After several years in the desert, she was kidnapped by the circus and spent a year or so on the road performing and making costumes. She became a bohemian vagabond, spending time in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and the East Coast working on the festival circuit with musicians, bands and festival organisers as a photographer and artist liaison.
Throughout her travels, she continued to develop her unique artistic voice, drawing inspiration from the diverse cultures and landscapes she encountered. She explored a variety of different mediums and techniques, influencing the versatile artist she is today.
She eventually settled in the rainforest and attended a nearby technical college to study art, developing her love and aptitude for printmaking, ceramics, sculpting and painting. Two years later, after completing with distinction honours, she felt compelled to return to England. She moved to live by the ocean for the final six months before her return.
During this time, she continued to hone her skills and develop her unique style, incorporating elements of nature and wildlife in her work. The tranquil ocean setting provided her with a new source of inspiration, influencing her art in unexpected ways as she prepared to embark on the next chapter of her artistic journey.
After returning to England, Lucy settled back with her mother in Suffolk, spending her time exploring the fields where she had spent her early childhood. Lucy’s time reconnecting with the Suffolk countryside allowed her to reconnect with her roots and further develop her signature style, blending elements of nature and nostalgia into her artwork.
Lucy studied a master’s in illustration and book arts in Cambridge, awarded with high distinction honours. After study she worked for an antiques auction house, participated in artist residencies, ran charity fundraising exhibitions, and run a freelance business providing online and social media support for artists and small businesses.
When not creating in her studio Lucy continues her freelance work, exhibits regularly, is represented by galleries, works part-time in a local art gallery, and runs an antiques business with her mother. Her passion for art and dedication to her craft has allowed her to establish a career in the creative industry. She hopes to continue growing as an artist and inspiring others through her work.
