I was born in Suffolk, England, to an English antique dealer and an Australian cowboy. For the first five years of my life, I travelled the world, living in Australia, America, and Italy. Returning to England for schooling, the art room was my place of solitude and freedom. At sixteen, I attended an arts college, studying media studies, photography, art history, film, and textiles.
At the age of nineteen, I returned to Australia. Over the next ten years, she worked in remote aboriginal communities, running playgroups and artist studios. I curated and worked on arts, culture, and music festivals and worked for community arts organisations and art galleries. Later, I performed and went on tour with musicians as their tour photographer. All the while, I created and exhibited multiple bodies of work. I studied various artistic practices, such as sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, weaving and photography, while being mentored by working professionals in the field.
At twenty-nine, I returned to the UK, studying a masters in illustration and book arts at The Cambridge School of Art, which I achieved with distinction honours.
I am currently based in the mediaeval village of Lavenham, Suffolk, UK, where I creates in my home-built studio.

The wind has blown me in many directions. I've followed dreams into reality. I've explored the un-known and re-acquainted with the familiar. I’ve bathed in cool waters, played with fire, got lost in the nights sky and sung with the sky larks. I've learnt that there is endless wisdom to share when you dedicate time to sit down and listen. I've come to realise the vast, endless ocean that lies within us all. I’ve felt the wind beneath my wings. I've witnessed heaven on earth and endured suffering. I've accepted the paradox and yet still feel confused at times. I've returned to my breath. I've flown my freak flag high. I’ve witnessed artists lift up crowds like shiny glitter balls emanating light. I've been inspired by individuals who ‘hold their own’ from a place of truth, standing strong like oak trees. I've learnt that true self confidence comes from within and that the strongest strength is soft like cashmere and patient like water. I've debated with fine academics and street philosophers. I've experienced great love and boundless beauty. I've felt great suffering and shame, to which I’m not alone. I've learnt to trust. I'm still learning. I’ve committed my life to curiosity and creativity. I've achieved the flow state and I've worked through the blockages. I’ve brought creativity out in the most unlikely of people. In turn they taught me many things such as; judgement only limits oneself. I've learnt that I have many layers and many parts of me that all have their place at my table. I've returned to my breath. I've learnt that by accepting help and taking the olive branch from someone you trust has powers beyond measure. I've laughed until my sides split and tears have rolled down my cheeks. I've felt ecstasy and turmoil. I've returned to my breath. I've tried and failed numerous times. I've shed, renewed and cleansed. I’ve started again and again. I've been spellbound by the kindness of strangers and witnessed sunrises that are so stunning that my heart could burst into a million golden stars. I’m full of passion and welcome patience, softness, and tenderness with compassion. I've embraced vulnerability and acknowledged that sensitivity is a super power not to be underestimated. I love to learn. I will always be learning. Always evolving. Always returning.
My Process
I think of my creative process as a path of stepping stones set on an endless lake of creativity. Balancing on individual stepping stones, I step from one stone to the next. I make a series of considered choices. Each choice informs the next, and so on. Sometimes I run swiftly over the steps, and sometimes I stand for as long as it takes to feel confident in my next step. Sometimes I make a clumsy step. The point is to keep stepping, no matter what. Don’t let my zen-like metaphor fool you. It’s not easy. There can be many steps and multiple paths. It can be overwhelming. So I return to the step I’m on. I remember that each choice is guided by a feeling, an instinct, and experience.
As an artist, I must trust in my innate, instinctual feelings. Surrender to them; let them be my guide. As an abstract expressionist, I have spent a lifetime creating a visual and gestural language that is my own. It is built from practice, play, and experimentation. More often than not, all I have to do to make the next step is touch the paintbrush to the canvas and let my hand start what my mind can’t decide. I then consider compositional balance and tone as a guide; my instinct communicates my visual sense of what works for the piece.
A large part of the process is understanding that there are no mistakes. Each ‘good’ or ‘bad’ choice leads to a whole new path of stepping stones. Actually, a ‘mistake’ will lead to an unknown or unexpected path that is more exciting than the previously perceived path. If a ‘mistake’ pushes the work to the point of no return, it enters the endless lake of creativity with a gift left behind: a lesson learned and a choice played out. Though unsatisfying in one way, it will always be a part of my individual artistic language.
To be an artist is brave. To be an artist is connected. So be kind to yourself and have fun. I’m grateful for my stepping stones and the lake of creativity that surrounds me. I stand barefoot on the slate-black stone steps, feeling the moss between my toes, and I watch the ripples flow. Mountains stand in the distance. It’s raining, and the air is fresh.
